What causes a sample to fail?

Sample failures typically arise when a sample is not obtained in accordance with the OncoK9 collection procedure. Reasons include:

  1. insufficient quantity of blood
  2. a coagulated sample
  3. samples that exhibit extensive hemolysis
  4. samples which were subject to temperatures outside the recommended range (such as being placed in the refrigerator prior to shipping)
  5. samples that arrived at the PetDx lab more than 7 days after sample collection
Samples can also fail if they did not yield enough DNA to be analyzed successfully or were impacted by a laboratory processing issue.

If a sample fails to achieve the PetDx-established quality metrics, the result will be reported as "non-reportable".
